It was good to welcome a new competitor, Stuart Sawyer in his 24 foot RS Elite, named Origo. With the race due to finish at 1945, Jetta was in the lead at the Turning mark off Trebah beach at 1941, and so the race then continued out to the Dennis mark. Jacobi struggled to pass Big Purple after rounding the mark at Trebah, a couple of minutes after Jetta, but eventually passed Garth Weaver's Big Purple on the beat out of the River. Jacobi overhauled Jetta a couple of hundred metres before the finish to win the race, with Big Purple and Origo finishing close behind Jetta. After 90 minutes of racing all four boats finished within a minute of each other, which kept all the competitors on their toes right up to the end.

On a sunny evening with a light easterly breeze, the race began with a spinnaker run from the start, upriver, to the Turning Mark off Trebah Beach. The next leg took the boats out of the Helford River to the Shag Mark off Mawnan Shear, tacking into the breeze. Jetta seemed to get past Big Purple and Origo approaching the Shag Mark, by keeping closer to the cliffs, only to find Big Purple able to call "Starboard" at the mark, causing Jetta to tack away. No sooner had Jetta tacked back on to port tack to round the mark when Origo came up to the mark calling "Starboard" and forcing Jetta to tack away again. By the time Jetta finally got round the Shag mark Big Purple and Origo were well on their way across to the Dennis mark, below Dennis Head. In the meantime Jacobi was steadily eating into the lead of the smaller boats, and chose the North side of the river, for her final leg back upriver to Trebah Beach. Origo almost seemed becalmed in the middle of the river, while Jetta kept tacking her spinnaker close to the South bank, eventually passing Big Purple nearby. Jacobi got by the three other boats, finishing first by a couple of minutes from Jetta, with Big Purple another four minutes behind in third place. The finishing order was exactly the same as the previous week, and was also in order of boat length, with Jacobi, the 35 foot J109 largest, and Origo, the 24 foot Elite, the smallest.

Congratulations to Big Purple on her first win of the 2007 season. Jetta and Jacobi were involved in a tacking duel to the last mark which was eventually won by Jacobi when a lucky wind shift allowed her to tack under Jetta's bow, just before the line. Origo was fourth followed by Amanzimtoti which had the misfortune to get her spinnaker stuck at the top of the mast. Jacobi's second place in Race 3 assures her of first place in the Spring Wednesday Pursuit Series, having won the first two races in the series.

Jacobi on 2nd May
As the boats tested the easterly breeze on a sunny evening before the start, the race skippers noticed that the white buoy, usually placed on the Shag mark off Mawnan Shear, had blown across the river and could not be used. The course for the race used the Shag mark, and so word was passed from boat to boat to miss out the Shag mark completely.

The fleet set off on the last of the pursuit races, led by Shere Khan and Origo, beating into the wind towards the Dennis mark. Spinnakers were hoisted for the second leg back up the river on a high tide towards Trebah Beach. Jetta had to relaunch her spinnaker after a twist in the middle failed to clear. Big Purple managed to pass Origo, with Shere Khan, Jetta and Jacobi in pursuit. After rounding the Turning mark off Trebah Big Purple led the fleet on a beat back out towards Nare Nare point, but Shere Khan suffered broken tackle and was forced to retire. The spinnakers were hoisted again at Nare for the final leg, with Big Purple going well and Jetta stuggling to make any impression on the leaders. As Big Purple approached the finish in the lead, Jacobi's pace was again decisive, and she passed Big Purple to win the fourth race and the Spring Pursuit series. Jetta just managed to pass Origo on the approach to Trebah, to gain third place in the race, and third in the series.
