Jacobi leads the way to Rosemullion, pursued by Demolition and Jabadeo

A gentle south west breeze greeted sailors and Race Officer, John Gleadowe, set an eight mile course for the eight yachts, taking them out into Falmouth Bay twice to the Rosemullion mark. Kudu was again the only starter in the PY class but another yacht hopes to join the next PY race. In the IRC class Demolition made an impressive start and reached the turning mark off Trebah beach after Jacobi but ahead of the faster J92s. This transformation in Demolition's rather sluggish performance of past weeks was made by the simple stategy of cleaning the hull. On the two mile spinnaker run out to the Rosemullion mark Jabadeo established a lead over Forza! and Jetta, the other two J92s, while Demolition held second place behind Jacobi. The beat back to the Committee mark in the River mouth allowed Jabadeo to pass Demolition, before the next spinnaker run to Nare and then Rosemullion. By this time skippers were beginning to wonder if the first boat would get back for the finish within the two hour time limit, and Jinjy and Shere Khan decided to retire. Thankfully Jacobi reached the finish within the alloted two hours, but with only a few minutes to spare, allowing the other boats a further thirty minutes to finish. Demolition was able to prevent Jabadeo getting too far ahead, and so gained second place on corrected time, four minutes behind Jacobi, but six minutes ahead of Jabadeo. It just goes to show that it pays to keep your bottom clean!
