There were nine yachts ready to take advantage of a good breeze to start the new Mid Summer Series of races. A new system is being trialled with separate races for PY and IRC classes. Only Kudu started in the PY class at 1815 and the remaining eight IRC boats started at 1830. Jacobi, Big Purple and Origo got off to a good start towards the windward mark off Trebah Beach, and having rounded were soon hoisting spinnakers for the two mile run out of the River to the Rosemullion mark. The J92s, Jabadeo and Forza! were going well downwind, with Jabadeo favouring a course closer to the North shore. Jacobi was first to round the Rosemullion mark followed by Big Purple, Jabadeo and Forza!   Jinjy and Origo kept up good speed but Demolition struggled to stay in touch with the fleet. Jetta managed to pass Forza! on the spinnaker leg to the Nare mark, but could make little impression on Jabadeo, the other J92. The final leg saw the fleet beating back into the River, to be finished by Roger at the Committee mark at around eight o'clock.
