Jetta approaches the Eastern mark with Forza! close behind

The final race of the Late Summer Series saw Amanzimtoti, Forza!, Jinjy, Fleeting Feeling, and Jetta at the start line. The first leg took the small fleet on a two mile beat out towards the Eastern mark. Forza! established a small lead followed by Jinjy and Jetta sailing side by side for about half a mile. As the yachts passed Nare Point, sea conditions became quite choppy, and crews began to scan the waves for the Eastern mark. Roly Kirby, Officer of the Day, was at the Eastern mark position, but neither he nor any of the other boats could find the mark, even with the benefits of GPS navigation. Jetta, by now just in the lead, went on to sail round a fishing buoy just past the position of the missing mark, in the hope that the other boats might follow and make a race of it. Jinjy sailed on looking for the mark and Forza! turned to follow Jetta in towards the Rosemullion mark. Forza! hoisted her spinnaker and began to catch Jetta, which was using only white sails. By this time Jingy had retired and was heading back into the River. Jetta sailed on to the Shag mark ahead of Forza! and then into the River. Forza! meanwhile made the most of the wind, sailing towards the Nare mark and then hoisting their spinnaker for an exhilerating run back into the River mouth. With the last race of the series void, the positions in the series remain as they were last week. In PY the first three were Jacobi, Jetta and Big Purple, and in IRC the first three were Jacobi, Big Purple and Jetta.
