Race Officer, Rob Hewett, set a six mile course in the northerly breeze, taking the yachts out to the Maenporth mark. There was a congested start with three yachts crossing the line before the signal. Jabadeo, Jetta and Demolition all jumped the gun, but only Jetta and Demolition came back to restart. Jacobi was first to reach Toll, and then struggled to carry her white spinnaker across to Central, allowing Jabadeo and Big Purple to close up the gap. The spinnaker run out to the Nare mark was unlucky for Jetta whose spinnaker shackles came unclipped twice, once at the clew and then at the tack. The breeze increased near the Nare mark and Kudu, the only yacht in the PY race, had spinnaker problems. Forza! meanwhile set off for the Maenporth mark too soon, having confused the order of the letters M and N, but she still got round the Nare mark ahead of Jetta. The breeze then continued to increase, causing the overpowered yachts to heel, and shooting spray over the crews as they beat towards Maenporth, with Jacobi now well ahead of Big Purple. As the yachts ran before the wind back towards the Helford River, the breeze which had exceeded 20 knots, began to die away again, leaving the boats near the back of the fleet with a further disadvantage. Jacobi had a comfortable win, four minutes ahead of Big Purple on corrected time, with Demolition third.

Tom Smith, one of the Jetta syndicate, took many excellent photographs of the race which can be seen at the URL below:
