There was very good support for the Lady Helm Race with eleven yachts starting in a steady breeze from the NNWest. The race began with a two-mile spinnaker run out to the Eastern mark, and Jetta, helmed by Katherine Sharp, had an excellent start, leading all the way, with Jacobi and Forza! in hot pursuit. On the beat back into the River, Jacobi, helmed by Julia Deane, sailed past Jetta and rounded the Central mark first, followed by Jetta and Forza! The boats then had another spinnaker run out to the Nare mark, near Nare point, before heading back to the Shag mark, beneath the cliff at Mawnan. Jacobi had problems rounding the Shag mark where there was a pronounced "hole" in the breeze, caused by the nearby cliffs, but eventually she got round. Jetta got round the Shag mark, but then got becalmed just after it, with Jinjy, Demolition, and the rest of the fleet catching up fast. On the last leg to the Committee buoy Jacobi had a good lead, but most of the other boats were quite close, and there was only three minutes separating the first and fifth boats on corrected times. Demolition beat Jinjy by just two seconds, to win the IRC handicap, with Jacobi finishing just ahead of Jinjy to win the PY handicap.
