Following the previous week's strong winds, nine Helford yachts joined the second race in the series, with another stiff breeze blowing down the River. It was good to welcome Demolition and Jabadeo back into the fleet, for their first race of this season, with respected veteran yachtman Wally Royall at the helm of Jabadeo, celebrating his eightieth birthday on the day of the race.

Origo, Shere Khan, Amanzimtoti, Demolition, and Jinjy were first to start, with Origo soon establishing a good lead, beating upriver towards the windward mark. The second leg took the fleet downwind over two miles to the Rosemullion mark in Falmouth Bay. Speeds well into double figures were achieved, as the colourful spinnakers filled with the lively breeze. Origo, with a third crew member on board, was the first to round the Rosemullion mark followed by Demolition and Shere Khan close together. Big Purple and Jacobi were steadily eating into the lead of the early starters, and as the yachts headed back into the river towards the windward mark, they began to work their way up through the fleet. After going well Big Purple missed the Voose mark, and so had to retire, while more misfortunes with equipment forced Shere Khan to retire again. Origo, the smallest yacht, managed to hold off Jacobi the largest, until the final leg, when again Jacobi's pace on the beat proved decisive. Jetta finished in third place after overcoming more spinnaker problems, just managing to pass Demolition on the final leg. Back in the clubhouse after the race Wally Royall's eightieth birthday was marked by the presentation of the "Wally Royall Cup" to the winning yacht, Jacobi.
