Dinghy Racing

Club dinghy racing is held on Thursday evenings and Sundays throughout the summer. It is tide dependant so you will need to keep an eye on the Dinghy Racing Schedule.

Before you can compete you must complete and return to the Club Office a Dinghy Racing Entry Form providing details about yourself and your boat and making a declaration about your insurance cover.

The format for club racing is either a line start from a committee boat, or the popular pursuit races starting from the Club line. Dinghy Racing Courses will be chosen before the start of the race depending on wind direction. You will need to familiarise yourself with the Dinghy Racing Marks and Dinghy Racing Rules before the start of the race.

Any dinghy with a PY number is welcome to join the fleet. Popular classes include Wayfarer, Solo, Laser, Topper & a mixture of others. Alternatively you can join in by using one of the Wayfarer or Topper Club Dinghies. For pursuit races your start time is listed in the Dinghy Racing Handicaps.

After racing the competitors gather back at the clubhouse for après sail - the important part of the evening in the bar reliving the race over a beer and something to eat! It is a tradition at this time that competitors thank volunteer Rescue Boat crews for their efforts by keeping their kitty behind the bar topped up!

The Dinghy Racing Results will be published on the club noticeboard and on this website. A prize giving dinner will be held at the end of the season, see the Social Programme for details.

The Club holds a number of special racing and sailing events throughout the calendar including the Susanna May Memorial Cup, its own Club Family Regatta Day and Junior Sailors sail and camp -see the page giving dates.
