Below is a letter from Roger Pursehouse, emailed to members
on Monday 21st March 2005
Hopefully by now you will have had time to read the piece I was asked
to write for the 2005 Yearbook which identified some of our aspirations
for the coming cruising season.
The following is an outline of the programme to date which is basically
the fixed events we normally support with our presence and events like
the Plymouth Fireworks Competition which is fixed by others.
May 7th Cruise to Fowey in support of COGS 1.
May 27th L'Aber Wrac weekend.
June 25th Cruise to Plymouth in support of COGS 2.
July 2nd HRSC Regatta.
July 9th Cruise to Penzance in support of COGS 3.
July 9th HRSC social cruise to St Mawes.
July 29th Cruise to Scilly to coincide with the PASAB race.
August 9-11th Cruise to Plymouth for the National Fireworks Competition.
Sept. 10th Cruise to Fowey in support of COGS 4.
We have been asked to take a full part in the new HRSC Regatta day on
July 2nd, holding some sort of event in an attempt to get as many people
as possible on the water. A 'white sail race' for cruising yachts has
been suggested, perhaps we could award a Cruising Cup? Who knows? Any
suggestions, preferences?
Fred Kearsley is arranging another cruising extravaganza, on the lines
of last seasons cruise to Coverack, this time to St Mawes on Saturday
July 9th, with lunch at the St Mawes Club. Hopefully we will be able
to support his efforts. We will encourage as many boats as possible to
overnight up the Fal for a modest party in our usual style.
During the period of the shorter nights it would be good to arrange some
cruises to the Scillies and to Brittany. Some people got in 3 trips to
Scilly and 2 to South Brittany last season. It would be excellent if
more boats could share.
Please let me know preferred dates and interests. In between times it
goes without saying that we shall pull in as many trips to Fowey and
Plymouth as well as local weekend cruises as possible.
We need to flesh out at least the early part of our programme ASAP. Do
we need a pre-season meeting to do this? It would probably be the quickest
way forward! Do we need a small committee to help? What are your preferences
for dates and venues? Have you an ambition for a cruise to a particular
destination?
It would be very helpful if you would let me have your views ASAP please.
Hope to hear from you very soon.
Kindest regards
Roger Purshouse
